To offer vertical and horizontal interpretations, one is placed above the other. To see both, you look up and down. To see each, you look across. Looking up, down, and across invites negotiation, reflection, and comparison of one thing to another. Engagement is not singular. To look up is to stand erect/have standing, to look down is to squat/to waste. To look across is to spill out. Horizontal is shared and vertical, a strident individuality. Best regarded with a squint of the eye and up close, a loupe.
Rushes consists of raw footage I shot for a 'Making Of' used to promote the launch of a mobile phone brand campaign. This footage comes from my archive of commercial film and video production work (2003-ongoing). It observes the advertising economy through its making and brings a spectrum of political, financial and intellectual economies of which these types of images are part of together.
Rushes was exhibited in the show: Squatters
